New laws passed on how the President can make a submission on termination of a judge’s status / The “Lawyers’ Gazette” newspaper for the legal profession
Draft laws were amended by the third reading to abolish the Russian Federation constituent entities’ statutory (constitutional) courts.
One expert believes that this outcome for statutory (constitutional) courts was predetermined by the new version of article 118 of the Constitution, which contains an exhaustive list of courts in Russia’s judicial system. Another expert noted that the abolition of these courts will strengthen the common legal space and keep controversial decisions made by the constitutional courts of Russia’s constituent entities from destabilizing the political situation.
Artyom Berlin, a Senior Associate at Borenius Russia, shared his point of view on the new amendments with the “Lawyers’ Gazette” legal newspaper.
