At the end of 2020, gathered representatives of St. Petersburg’s legal consulting firms and courts for the fifth legal online discussion to sum up the results of the year in justice and law-making. Despite all the difficulties that everyone faced in 2020, legal industry representatives noted a number of positive changes. These included the clear advantages of going digital. In particular, court sessions are now being held via video communication (which improves accessibility, helps the justice system work faster and cuts travel and shipping costs). Also, people have become more willing to negotiate and open to finding a common language with each other.

Andrei Gusev, Managing Partner of Borenius Russia, shared the key tax events in 2020 with participants. Events included a tax manoeuvre in the IT industry, the revision of double taxation treaties (DTTs), changes in personal income tax and the patent taxation system for controlled foreign companies (CFCs).
